Diocesan Youth Office Mission Statement

The Diocesan Youth Office (DYO) is the body established by the Bishop to promoted and develop youth ministry throughout the Diocese of Rockhampton. Having grown out of a significant history of initiatives by young people themselves, and by supporting adults, the DYO continues to be inspired by a vision of ministry by, with, to and for the youth. With respect for the principle of subsidiary, the DYO works with parishes, regions, movements, schools, youth networks and individuals in a spirit of mutual collaboration. It does this primarily through coordination, consultancy, support and formation for youth leaders, but also with initiatives and programs open to all youth. AN emphasis is placed on post-school youth since they are a relatively under-resourced group, often not linked into any supportive family or faith networks. In major centers, the period of transition from school to post-school is seen as a key strategy area, while in country areas, high-school age are often the most appropriate focus for outreach.
